His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana, amongst several other innovative initiatives, created the Northern Development Authority Act 963, 2017. It’s mandate among other things, is to provide a framework for the accelerated economic and social development of the three administrative regions of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. This is in fulfilment of the NPP’s 2016 Campaign manifesto promise to replace SADA with the Northern Development Authority and create two other development Authorities for the middle and coastal belt to spur rapid economic development across the country.

Nafisah Azundow, 35, is a native of Yagaba community in the Mamprugu Maogduri district located in the Northern Region of Ghana. She is married with 5 children and farm as a peasant to cate for her family’s livelihood. Nafisah used to cultivate maize on 1ha land each year while helping her husband on their family land. This was barely for survival.

The South African High commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Ms. Lulama Xingwana, visited the zone from Thursday 9th March 2017 to Friday 10th March 2017 at the invitation of SADA and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC). The purpose of the tour was the exploration of investment opportunities in the zone that might be of interest to South African Investors. H.E Xingwana focused on opportunities in the following sectors; Agriculture and Agribusiness, Energy, Transportation, and Tourism and Culture.
