Mole game national park is Ghana’s largest, premium and most developed wildlife refuge in Ghana. Located in the northwest of Ghana on grassland savanna with sharp escarpment forming the southern boundary of the park. The entrance to the park is reached through the nearby town of Larabanga. The Lovi and Mole rivers are ephemeral rivers flowing through the park, leaving behind only drinking holes during the dry long season.

Ghana is one of the most extensively surveyed countries in Africa from a natural resources point of view. Since colonial times when it was the Gold Coast, countless studies, feasibility reports, water resources assessments and soil reconnaissance surveys have been carried out for selected sites within the country. Most of these studies, though, have focused their attention on the water resources-based development potentials that can be generated from the economic exploitation of Ghana’s main drainage basin (The Volta River System), its main tributaries (The Black and White Volta and the Oti River), in addition to the wide network of secondary and tertiary streams that contribute to the impressive amounts of discharge into Lake Volta and the lower sections of the Basin (Tamne, Morago, Tono, Sissili, Kulpawn, Nasia, Gushie, Nabogo, Mole, Mawli, Daka, and many others). Proposed water-based developments have been primarily in the field of hydropower, with a modest attention on irrigation, flood control, navigation and urban water supply.

The climate of Ghana and as such the SADA Zone is controlled by two air masses: The Northeast Trade Winds or the Harmattan and the Southwest Trade Winds, or the Monsoons. The interphase of these two air masses is called the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) or the Tropical Rain Belt. The rainfall seasons of Ghana are controlled by the movement of the tropical rain belt, which oscillates between the Northern and southern tropics over the course of a year. The dominant wind direction in regions south of the ITCZ is south-westerly, blowing moist air from the Atlantic onto the continent, but north of the ITCZ (the SADA Zone) the prevailing winds come from the north east, bringing hot and dusty air from the Sahara desert (known as the ‘Harmattan’). As the ITCZ migrates between its north and south positions over the course of the year, the regions between these those northern and southernmost positions of the ITCZ experience a shift between the two opposing prevailing wind directions. This pattern is referred to as the West African Monsoon.

The main purpose of undertaking topographical surveys is to collect relevant field data (location and elevation) about all important natural and man-made features in the study area (e.g. roads, settlement areas, farmland, protected areas, cultural sites, water sources, existing infrastructure, etc.) and use the information to prepare accurate maps of the study areas indicating the relative locations and elevation variations of the important

AN INSPIRING AGENDA TO TRANSFORM THE AFRICAN SAVANNAH TO END EXTREME POVERTY BY 2030
The African Savannah contains most of the poorest regions in our continent. Yet is also the region most suitable for commercial agriculture and agriculture-led industrialisation. It awaits proper attention to transform it into the breadbasket of the world.
To do so we ask the World Bank and other development finance institutions to lead this process by committing to mobilise cash and guarantees to the tune of $1bn over the next 15 years, which should leverage up to $50bn in private funding to transform the African Savannah so that no one is truly left behind..

This chapter discusses themes which involve technologies developed and validated for agriculture in tropical climate, known as good agricultural practices (GAP), but more recently, many of these technologies have been included in the portfolio of climate-smart agriculture practices, once, by delivering better results in sustainable land and water management, they also provide many of the benefits expected in dealing with climate change, climate change adaptation and resilience. Most of the these technologies were created as a consequence of the emergence of the ”Green Revolution”, initiated during the 1960s in the United States, adapted to the conditions of the temperate climate. The development of the agriculture technologies for the tropics provide great opportunities for the production of food in regions with similar climatic-edaphic conditions as those of Brazil, and in this context it has and will continue to contribute significantly to food security.

Significant progress in sub-Saharan Africa has been made in the last four decades. Life expectancy has increased by 10 years, and literacy has increased substantially. Despite these real increments, economies in sub-Saharan African countries have not grown enough to support increasing populations. A lack of basic infrastructure, health services, and education, as well as limited sources for saving and income generation are at the root of a lack of economic growth.
To end extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, it is critical to invest in productive resources, infrastructure, and human capital to enable poor people to gain economic, political and social power.

Located strategically along the Lake Volta and North-South economic development corridor, Buipe is connected to both southern Ghana and cross-border towards Burkina Faso. There is an increasing development gap between the Northern Savannah Ecological belt and the rest of the country. By all indications the North lags behind the South and the gap seems to be increasing. This gap is a critique of the status quo. At the same time, as a result of agricultural practices, the fragility of the soils and in increasing deforestation there is a tendency for weather changes to cause droughts and floods.
With global warning, these events can be expected to occur more frequently. The political leadership and development analyst in Ghana agree that bridging this gap is as critical national issue.
